ALEXEI BORISOV / OLGA NOSOVA / DAVE PHILLIPS

Borinosophil

(Monotype - MONO051) CD $14.00

The Russian duo also known as Astma worked with Phillips in June 2009; the recordings combine the energy unleashed by Borisov and Nosova together with the more continuous sound world of Phillips and occasional rapid editing from him. Densely orchestrated electronics with a hypnotic, psychedelic feeling that embraces elements of weird free-form spoken word, minimalism, free jazz, noise, heavy acid, electroacoustic, dub and a variety of acoustic torture.

III+

(Tochnit Aleph - TA029) CDR $20.00 (Out-of-stock)

61 tracks by this Schimpfluch Gruppe / Runzelstirn & Gurgelstock collaborator, most of which are from a 1997 Schimpfluch cassette-only release. In the gain-attendant tradition of consciousness-captains R&G and S-G, gorked-up splats leap out of nowhere and try to permanently damage internal potentiometers by abusing the far reaches of impact detection. III+ enforces awareness of annexation of all empirical data receptors with magnifying glasses (or a suitably sexy analog). As in all great works of literature from the macrobiotic punctuation school, it's all about the crossing and the dotting. In oversized sleeve.

DAVE PHILLIPS / R.H.Y. YAU

Illusion is a Natural Condition

(Auscultare Research) CD $10.50 (Out-of-stock)

The long anticipated collection of Dave Phillips and R.H.Y. Yau collaborations culled between 2000-2005. Phillips began his musical career when he was 17, co-founding the hardcore extremists Fear of God in 1987, whose increasingly faster, shorter, and noisier approaches to grindcore Philips realized were merely a springboard for more psychologically challenging and physically demanding artforms. Soon after Fear of God’s demise in 1989, he joined the actionist Schimpfluch-Gruppe which has followed the traditions of abjection and transgression as dictated by the Viennese Aktionists. Phillips has further developed these transgressions along with sociopolitical actionism in his solo efforts. Yau is a curator and sound artist who has been active in the sonic arts since 1993; his works are inspired by sound poetry, actionism, and the processes of musique concrète. Bored by academic cliques, Yau creates what he calls “action-concrète” -- organic synapses of voice, body, and raw materiality combined with raw electronics into sound experiences of both ultra-violence and absolute absurdity at the most base level. With ten lithographic reproductions of original drawings by Leif Elggren.

CORNELIA HESSE-HONEGGER / DAVE PHILLIPS

Mutations

(Ini Itu - INIITU1002) LP $16.00 (Out-of-stock)

Using source material recorded in Thailand and Vietnam between 1994 and 2007, Mutations rests between Phillips's constructed works and his pure field recordings. Here he juxtaposes, layers, condenses, stretches, and distorts sounds into balanced progressions, punctuations and dense climaxes which generate an overwhelming and sometimes uneasy environment. Hallucinatory, unsettling, brooding, ominous, always restrained, controlled, progressing toward the horror. Hesse-Honegger is a scientific illustrator and researcher who has studied the effects of radioactivity on insect morphology. Edition of 250, with two high-quality printed inserts. Rise

(Ideal) Used LP $15.00

“An abrasive, enthralling, uncompromising work that includes booming bass, drums, yelps, heavy breathing, clanks, slams, flies, growls, barks, broken glass, prisoners’ cries, discharged guns and protest chants. As the tempos remain constant, the aggressive intrusions remain in constant flux. Sounds travel speaker-to-speaker like rabid dogs searching for someone to bite. Dark drones enter without warning, acting as hoods placed over unsuspecting heads.”

Ritual Protest Music

(Urbsounds Collective) LP $23.00

Politically charged, hyperreal and unremitting soundscapes containing harsh social and self-criticism clad in a sense of impending doom spiced with an energizing optimism and informed by faith in the humanimal. Sound sources and instruments include voice, body sounds, field recordings, cello, violin, piano, electric bass, live performance recordings and dp’s organically growing bank of “hitting” sounds, culled from recordings of whips, punches, slaps, smacks, slamming doors and windows, hammered chairs and tables and objects flying about and breaking. a careful playfulness with rhythmical structures, as hinted at on 'rise', is further pursued. Gray vinyl

Sixth Mass Extinction

(Total Black) LP $23.00

Two side-long tracks: the stereo version of “Things Falling Apart,” a composition for three PAs, originally commissioned by Bad Bonn Kilbi Festival in Düdingen, Switzerland 2018, backed with “Radical Hope – Live Action (Studio Version),” triggered by a broken heart, since morphed into a piece about the relationship of the human as a species with Earth as a cherished entity, such as a loved one, a friend, a partner, a companion, a parent or a family member, a home or an origin. With eight-page newspaper featuring articles that offer a broad view of what homo sapiens has achieved in terms of coexistence and in taking care of its home, including a lengthy text by Professor Jem Bendell. They Live

(RRRecords) Used LP $30.00

An anarchist protest / actionist record, like Otto Muehl having his way with Herman Nitsch. Avant excursions of guttural excess and militant pounding, almost academic in its scope, by this current member of Schimpfluch and the former big cheese behind Fear Of God. TEDIUM HOUSE BEST OF 2009
