The Hurtado brothers’ sound works are constructed through the manipulation of natural sounds, varying the velocity and intensity of the recordings, and the cutting and splicing of tape. The early brutal collages here investigate nuances of sounds that at times verge upon silence. Etant Donnés’ total audio expression uses belches and punches, with attention concentrated on the symphonic, cacophonic organization of disorganized found sounds.
