Dhrupad singing by the Milan-born longtime resident of India meets the minimalist and experimental approach of the builder of homemade saxophone, Iranian ney, and other wind instruments. The album is sub-titled “Ancient Trends and New Traditions in Indo-European Music,” and its centerpiece is “Hiss (Mastered Noise)” for dhrupad singing, invented wind instruments, Indian percussion and samples of historical recordings by Indian singers —partly based on their earlier work “Gramophone Saraswati,” which involved replicas of Luigi Russolo’s Intonarumori instead of the Indian recordings.
